Restrictions on contacting buyers for FBA gifted items

Starting today, you cannot initiate a message to a buyer about a return via the Buyer-Seller Messaging Service if the buyer's order contains an FBA item designated as a gift. You will still be able to respond to messages about such returns if the buyer initiates the communication. For FBA items, Amazon will take care of order-related issues and customer service on your behalf.
